BE GOOD TO YOUR BELLY
Week of: January 17, 2007

With all the research I’ve been doing for my book ROCK STAR MOMMA (Simon & Schuster/Atria Books – in stores JUNE 19th), I have learned so much more about all the good things you can do to maintain a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Here are some of the most important things I came across:

*EAT WELL – Not only will eating well be best for you and your rapidly growing baby, it will also help boost your mood and energy levels, which as might know, are so important during your pregnancy. Experts recommend chicken, turkey, nuts, beans, lentils, plums and bananas now more than ever. Eating well also promotes a more restful sleep.

*REST! – Resist fighting the tiredness and try to go to bed as early as possible. I know there is a lot to take care of before junior arrives, but don’t overdo it! You have 9 months to get ready for your baby, don’t try to do it all in one day! Your body is working 24-hours-a-day to create life…your job is to take care of yourself and make sure you are getting enough rest.

*EXERCISE SENSIBLY – With that said, always seek the advise of a doctor before you head to the gym. Make sure you have a doctor approved workout plan! I loved yoga and pilates and sought the help of a trained prenatal specialist for both. Both exercises really helped me to relax and physically prepare my body for birth. And yoga has an incredible ability to calm your mind and strengthen your body at the same time.

*TALK TO YOUR BABY – I truly believe in communicating with your baby before birth. Find a quiet place in your home and spend 30 minutes simply talking to your baby.

*MOMMA TIME – Treat yourself to a day of pampering! I recommend doing this at least once a month (if not more!) during your pregnancy. There are trained therapists everywhere now in prenatal massage and facial treatments. The aroma of essential oils is also a great help if you find it difficult to unwind. I love lavender and lime for calming effects and they just smell SO good!

I hope these tips will inspire you to make every effort to enjoy your pregnancy. It is the most amazing 9 months of your life!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

xoxo Skye
